Our Recommendations

The most of the ayurveda resorts are preparing individually designed ayurveda programmes. We have divided them into 12 categories, which can help you to target the treatment of your health problem. We allow only one choice, because combining different treatments in a short time period could be contra productive. (For example: If you have a problem your knee and you wish to lose the weigh, the treatments applied at the same time could cause a problem with pita balance–higher pita level in your body could help you to digest food, but it could cause inflammation in your knee)

However, in case you have any specific health problem, we recommend the consultation with our ayurveda doctor or expert before you book your stay in the ayurveda resort or retreat. For patients who would like to go through panchakarma treatment or have more than one health issue to address, the ayurveda doctors will decide the appropriate treatment protocol based on consultation and health report from your doctor. When is the best time for Ayurveda treatment? Generally, we would say, anytime it is required, especially if it's for some particular ailment. Don't wait for some particular season or month for the ayurveda treatment it might only worsen the health problems.

Ancient ayurveda scriptures recommend the monsoon month of Karkidakam (July and August) ideal for all ayurveda rejuvenation practices especially panchakarma treatment. The rainy season, during the monsoon from June to September, is an ideal time for Ayurvedic treatment because the atmosphere remains cool, moist, and dust free. This helps the body’s pores to open up, making it most receptive to herbal oils and therapy. Monsoon season is attractive also from price point of view. Some resorts offer almost 30% discount.

Traditionally for intense ayurveda treatment are recommended resorts situated on the foot of the tropical mountains, where the climate supports the healing process. But the healing environment is also important.

Many foreigners, who are taking ayurveda treatment in India or Sri Lanka are from cold or landlocked countries and for them, the beach tropical scenery and the sunlight are very important elements. The good feeling can support the healing process, but usually ayurveda resorts situated close to the beach are very strict and do not recommend to patients to walk or take a bath in the sea during the treatment process.

Our Recommendations

In India, especially in Kerala, it is quite easy to choose high quality ayurveda certified resort or hospitals. Few resorts were able to receive NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health Care Providers), the highest recognition of the Indian government in the hospitals and health care sector. They are offering very strict and intense ayurveda healing & detox programme and often minimum stay is 14 nights.

Kerala government elaborated certification standards for ayurveda resorts and the list of certificated resorts can be checked on Kerala tourism website. Since last year two categories were recognized, but legislative had changed and now there are three categories of certified ayurveda resorts: Ayur Silver, Ayur Gold, Ayur Diamond. Ayur Silver is the category having minimum facilities and Ayur Diamond is category having highest facilities. All certified resorts offer high quality range of ayurveda treatments from relaxing and holiday programmes to strict and intense ayurveda healing & detox programmes. The length of the stay depend on chosen ayurveda programme. Note: Under the ayurveda homestays we are listing all the ayurveda resorts and retreats with less than 10 rooms.

Food & Diet

Our Recommendations

Ayurveda believes, that our kitchen can be our pharmacy and food can be medicine. If you treat disease with the ideal drug, you can cure it. But, if you are eating a proper food, you don't need the medicine. That is why, if you are interested in intense ayurveda healinganddetox programme, we recommend you to choose your diet programme very carefully and ask for individually prepared ayurvedic food.

But if you are interested only in relax and healthy ayurveda inspired holiday, then probably you will more enjoy the stay in the resorts, where ayurveda food is served as a part of the buffet divided according to three doshas (Vata, Pita, Kapha). Note: Ayurveda is not against non-vegetarian food, but during the ayurveda treatment is recommended vegetarian diet, which can be digest more easily and improve purification process of the body. The most of the ayurveda resorts do not offer coffee, tea or alcohol.

Yoga & Meditation

Our Recommendations

Each ayurveda programme includes at least once a day a yoga or meditation lesson in different level according to patient’s need. It must be taken into the consideration, that yoga lessons only supplement ayurveda treatment. Sometimes for foreigners, who associate yoga with the image of a healthy flexible body of yogi in acrobatic position, can be yoga lessons during the ayurveda treatment perceived as very static.

The yoga exercises are usually very slow, easy and peaceful. It can be practised by anyone. The target of it is not to learn complicated yoga positions (asanas), but activation of the body energy flow, mind peacefulness and reconnection with your own self. In Sanskrit the word yoga means connection with yourself but also with environment around you. This connection is impossible without a healthy body, steady mind and clear consciousness, therefore yoga builds on ayurvedic principles. Yoga programmes target not only the physical problems such as back pain, join pain or head ache, but also mental conditions of the patients. The most of the psychosomatic and civilisation diseases are stress-related, that is why the main focus is on peaceful energy flow in the body and calmness of the mind. Note: If you are interested in intense or advanced yoga programme, we recommend you not to combine it with intense ayurveda healing programme. In long term perspective it can by contraproductive.

Value & Price

Our Recommendations

As old saying states: “Money can't buy health”. The word price for ayurveda treatment has different value.If you have a serious health problem, we highly recommend to search for a right doctor and treatment, not for the lowest rates. But if you would like to follow traditional advices and save some money, then monsoon season is attractive also from price point of view. Some resorts offer almost 30% discount.

Ayurveda programme rates include: accommodation in ayurveda resort, ayurveda doctor consultations during the stay, all therapies as per ayurveda treatment programme, ayurveda vegetarian diet (all meals during the day), daily yoga and meditation classes, transfer from and to the airport, all taxes and local fees.

Ananda Lakshmi Ayurveda Retreat is a place for everyone, who appreciate a family atmosphere, a peaceful environment, traditional authentic ayurveda, and space for the rejuvenation of body, mind, and soul.

Resort is situated on the cliff above Chowara Beach, close to Trivandrum in Kerala. The main building with reception, ayurveda center and two floor villas are hidden in the shade of palm and bamboo trees. The large hexagonal wooden yoga deck facing the ocean adds to resort iconic look, which you never forget. There, you can experience inner peace overlooking the blue ocean and the lush green palm gardens. Early morning refreshing yoga or sunset calming meditation help you to connect with yourself and with surrounding tropical environment.

Ananda Lakshmi's ayurveda team is led by Dr.Baiju, who hails from a traditional vaidyas family and has 27 years of experience both in India and Europe. He is assisted by Dr.Priyendu.

Resort offers a holistic and integrated approach to health. Body constitution analysis is offered here, along with internal and external treatments, and dietary regimens. Ayurveda programmes include abhayangam, snehapanam, rejuvenation massage, pizhichil, kizhi, vasti, steam, lepanam and dhara. The course of treatment is determined by doctors after the consultations.

THE DELUXE ROOMS (30 sqm) are situated in the main building above the reception. Some of them have a sea view, but no balconies.
